MIKE KELLEY, Ghost and Spirit, organized by the Tate Modern in London in collaboration with the Pinault Collection in Paris, K21 – Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, and the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, opens in Stockholm on May 10, 2025.
“Mike Kelley: Ghost and Spirit” is the first major exhibition in the Nordic region about the groundbreaking artist Mike Kelley (1954–2012). As one of the heirs of pop art in the late 20th century, he dissected 1980s and 1990s American culture in groundbreaking works that expose, question and provoke.
Mike Kelley's path into art went through anarchist political movements and experimental music scenes – he was a founding member of the Detroit-based post-punk band Destroy All Monsters and a recurring collaborator with the noise rock band Sonic Youth.
