Press Release

Marc Jancou Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Faces and Figures (Revisited). The title is inspired by the show Faces and Figures held at Thomas Ammann Fine Art, Zurich in 1989, which featured significant works from Gustave Courbet to Andy Warhol. This exhibition picks up where the original Faces and Figures left off, presenting works on paper from the 1960s to today. Various techniques and materials are explored, including airbrush, collage, vellum, India ink, Tabasco, and synthetic hair to name a few.

The exhibition will feature new works on paper by Tim Berresheim, Carter, Ross Chisholm, Michael Cline, Jim Drain, Slawomir Elsner, Raffi Kalenderian, Justin Lieberman, Duncan Marquiss, John Newsom, David Noonan, Pietro Roccasalva, Sam Salisbury, Torsten Slama, and Lucy Stein. In addition, significant works by Marlene Dumas, Carroll Dunham, Karen Kilimnik, Martin Kippenberger, Mike Kelley, Paulina Olowska, Steven Parrino, Raymond Pettibon, Richard Prince, Jim Shaw, Thomas Schutte, Franz West, and Luc Tuymans will be on view.

A comprehensive catalogue will accompany the exhibition, documenting the gallery's extensive history with works on paper. The catalogue will feature full-page illustrations of new work included in the show, as well as an index of images from previous exhibitions at former galleries in Zurich, London, St. Barth, and New York. In particular, the gallery's ongoing interest and in depth involvement with artists from the 1980s will be illustrated with series by artists such as Jim Shaw, Mike Kelley, and Raymond Pettibon, amongst others.
